New Year's Eve pie

Dash & Rosie helped make a lovely pizza-pie this evening. This was
Dash's first foray into pizza-making and he loved it! Monkeyrotica made
the wonderful crust by hand, then they added sauce, olives, browned
sausage, mushrooms, pepperoni, and two kinds of cheese (provolone and
mozzarella). Soooo tasty!

Also, Dash is modeling his new haircut. He trimmed a few locks off the
top on his own, and it was necessary for me to give him a serious cut
to even it out. I managed to trim it dry, with shears! He freaked out at
the clipper--too noisy & hurty. I think he looks quite handsome.

  1. and if you ask little boy who is handsome, he replies that he is handsome. Of course, grandma thinks so too. Happy New Year to all.

  2. I need a good pizza crust recipe. Mine's always soggy and not nice and chewy. Can I have your recipe? 'Cuz your crust looks pretty good

  3. For the deep dish, I used about 1.5 cups of warm water, a half teespoon of sugar, and about two teaspoons of yeast. Mixed that with about two cups of flour into a runny slurry and let that sit in a warm oven for about an hour (set it to 200 for a while, turn off, then put the yeasty watery dough in). Once that's risen, I just add more flour until it's the right consistency and knead, knead, knead. The dough ball should be smooth and tacky. Cover with a little flour and put back in the oven for another hour. Put A LOT of olive oil in the pan and on the dough, stretching while you go, sauce, toppings, cheese, then into a 425 oven, top rack. After about 25 minutes, give it a check to see if the cheese is nicely browned yet; keep it in until it is.

  4. Aw, Dash is very cute and has the kind of look I imagine a certain big Monkey has on his face when posting to DCist.
